Devotion out of my new book

This is an one of the devotions from my latest book that I am still writing. As you can see, I am only on February 25 and I have the rest of the year to go. This book will have a commentary and devotion on every verse in the book of John. I don’t know how long it will take to finish, but here is an example.

He must go through Samaria February 25

John 4:4

We find in this verse that Jesus must go through Samaria. So why is this so important? Because the Samaritans were despised by the Jews and the Jews would normally avoid going through Samaria. A Jew would normally travel East of the Jordan to make this trip. Samaritans were a mixed race of people being part Gentile and part Jewish. They had some different religious practices including worshipping at Mount Gerizim. Jesus was traveling alone through this despised country for a reason. There was a sinful Samaritan woman there whom Jesus desired to speak to and reveal who He was. He was distancing Himself from the religious Pharisees and going out of His was to witness to a woman that was despised by the Jews. Isn’t that just like our Jesus to go to the one whom everyone else has rejected and despised to let her know that she is important enough for Him to go out of His way to talk to her. We know that this meeting resulted in her salvation and her telling others about Jesus.

Have you ever been impressed to go out of your way to speak to someone or to do an act of kindness when everyone else ignores them. Being sensitive to the Spirit’s leading will never be wrong. There may be somebody that is looked down upon that God may use you to speak to. Maybe it’s a woman with a handicapped child, or some homeless person who doesn’t smell good, or that person at work or school who is unpopular, and everyone makes fun of. That small act of kindness could be what God uses to turn someone around, prevent a suicide, give them a friend, or lead them to Christ. To let them know that someone cares about them for they are someone that Christ died for. Their soul is just as important as the most well dressed, popular, wealthy person you meet. So, be led of the Spirit and go out of your way so that you can make a difference because Christ has made you different.
